With four strikeouts, LHP Steve Carlton moves past RHP Walter Johnson into second place on the all-time list with 3,511 in a 5-0 Padres win.

May 20, 2004

RHP Brett Myers becomes the first pitcher to throw a shutout in Citizens Bank Park history, blanking the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-0.

May 21, 1950

The Phillies are caught in a triple play without making contact with the ball in the first inning of the first game of a doubleheader against St. Louis at Shibe Park. With Richie Ashburn and Granny Hamner on base, Eddie Waitkus looks at a called third strike for the first out. Cardinals catcher Joe Garagiola then throws to third, where Ashburn is caught in a rundown. The ball is relayed to Stan Musial at first, who catches Hamner off the base.

1B Rhys Hoskins slugs his 100th career home run in his 450th game, becoming the fourth-fastest player to reach 100 homers with the Phillies behind Ryan Howard (325 G), Jim Thome (384 G) and Chuck Klein (390 G).

May 23, 1991

In just his 15th major league start, RHP Tommy Greene pitches the eighth no-hitter in Phillies history, a 2-0 win at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium. He walks seven and strikes out 10.

May 24, 1935

The Phillies lose the first night game in MLB history, 2-1, at Cincinnati’s Crosley Field. The contest is completed in a brisk 1:35 in front of 20,422 fans.

May 24, 1999

For the first time in Phillies history, and just the third time overall in Major League Baseball, the starting battery share the same surname, RHP Joel Bennett and C Gary Bennett. The Phillies win, 5-4, over Montreal at the Vet.

May 24, 2000

1B Pat Burrell makes his major league debut, going 2-for-5 with a single, triple and two RBI as the Phillies rally from a 7-0 deficit for a 9-7 win at Houston.

May 25, 2011

In the longest game in terms of innings at Citizens Bank Park to date, the Phillies edge Cincinnati, 5-4, in 19 innings. 2B Wilson Valdez pitches the 19th inning and becomes the first position player in Phillies history to record a win.

May 26, 1933

RF Chuck Klein hits for the cycle for the second time in his career in a 5-4, 14-inning loss at St. Louis.

May 26, 1962

The Phillies play their first game at Dodger Stadium, falling to the Dodgers 6-3, but sweep a doubleheader the next day to take the series.

May 26, 1990

Mike Schmidt’s No. 20 is retired in pregame ceremonies as the Phillies lose, 12-3, to Atlanta before a sellout crowd of 56,789.

C Garrett Stubbs is born in San Diego, Calif.

Chris Coste makes his ML debut at 33 years, 111 days old, making him the oldest player to make his ML debut with the Phillies since Izzy Leon on June 21, 1945 (34 years, 168 days).

RHP Craig Kimbrel earns the 400th save of his major league career in a 6-4 win over the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park, becoming just the eighth player in MLB history to reach that plateau. He does so in the 730th game of his career, which is the 3rd-fewest games needed to achieve the feat, trailing Hall of Famers Trevor Hoffman (706 games) and Mariano Rivera (697 games)

May 27, 1923

CF Cy Williams hits his 15th home run in the month of May, setting a club record for the most homers in a single month. Two days later, he sets another franchise mark with his 44th RBI of the month.

LHP Steve Carlton makes his 666th career start to break LHP Warren Spahn’s NL record in a 6-2 win over San Francisco.
